"MY STORY IN SHORT"

My name is Giorgos Magakis and I am a happy shot put masters athlete, competing in M45 age group category, member of the Greek Assosiation of Veteran Track and Field Athletes.
The story as an athlete begins at the age of 18 when I started working out at a local gym, lifting weights and training to get a good body shape.
By the time I was 20, I became a boxing athlete despite worries that I was starting rather old to make a boxing career. After a dozen of fights within the amateur division, I hung up my gloves and spent the next decade training just to keep myself in a good condition.
As time progressed, staying in shape, just wasn't dragging me off the sofa to train anymore. I really had the need to find a sport that would gave me again the opportunity of participating in a competition. Therefore as a guy with a good frame, I decided that the shot put was the appropriate sport for me. I started training approximately 2-3 days a week, no coach there, using the help of internet articles and u-tube videos.
At 36, I entered my very first contest, once again rather old to be a challenge for the younger guys.
When I reached 43, I discovered the existence of “masters athletics competitions” for track and field athletes over the age of 35. I made peace with myself since I found the place where I belonged. I wouldn't have the bad feeling of coming to action to late anymore. As a masters athlete I have the opportunity competing with athletes at the same age with me. Now I see much better results at least at a national level and my aim is to be in good form, able to compete and improve my performance as long as the passion for throwing is living strong inside my heart.
